There are type types of concrete polishing available:

1. Mechanically Polished Concrete (MPC)

MPC is a premium solution which leaves your concrete smooth and glossy.

Polished concrete is a process that takes abrasives (diamonds) and mechanically places scratches in the concrete.

We typically grind the concrete surface with a heavy, high torque machine using varying levels of coarse to fine diamond segments.

The grinding machinery used is accompanied by a dustless vacuum system which creates a clean, non-hazardous and environmentally friendly process.

2. Grind and Seal Polished Concrete (Concrete Grinding)

Grind and seal polished concrete is a budget-friendly alternative to mechanically polished concrete (MPC). Concrete grinding removes any surface contaminants and exposes the aggregate.

The finished product has a similar look to MPC but the shine or gloss is from the sealer only. When you have a large space and want to dress things up on a budget this is a great option.

With any sealed floor, the topcoat is sacrificial – these floors will require maintenance. The general rule of thumb for the lifespan of a coated floor is 5-6 years. After this time the surface will need to be re-sealed.

Residential Polished Concrete

Honed Concrete vs Polished Concrete Floor

Concrete honing and concrete polishing are sometimes mistakenly considered the same thing but there is a difference.

Honed concrete undergoes a concrete grinding process but not to the same refined state as a mechnaically polished concrete floor. A sealant is then placed over the concrete as a barrier. This will eventually wear down and will need to be sanded back and then a new sealant applied.

The difference doesn't just end there.

Polished concrete is a premium flooring option because it is much more refined. It incorporates grouting process and the use of chemical hardeners which improve the floors appearance and durability.
